Actor Ryan Gosling has expressed his disappointment and called out the Academy for not giving Barbie actress Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig nominations in the Best Actress and Best Director categories at the Oscars. Gosling, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Ken in the film, stated that the Barbie movie wouldn't exist without Gerwig and Robbie, who are responsible for its success. He believes that their talent and genius deserve recognition along with the other nominees.
Despite his disappointment, Gosling also acknowledged his own achievement and expressed gratitude for being nominated alongside remarkable artists in a year of great films. He even joked about his nomination for portraying a plastic doll named Ken. Gosling's co-star America Ferrera, who received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role as Gloria, also expressed her disappointment at Gerwig and Robbie's snub.
In addition to Gosling's nomination, the Barbie movie was also recognized in categories such as Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Costume Design, Production Design, and Original Song. The songs "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish and "I'm Just Ken" sung by Gosling were nominated for Best Original Song.
