On Tuesday, November 21, the K-pop group Blackpink attended a state banquet at Buckingham Palace alongside British and South Korean dignitaries. Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie, and Rosé looked stunning in their gowns as they made their way through the palace hallways. Although their outfits were different, they all had a sweeping skirt effect with statement necklines.
During the banquet, King Charles gave a speech to the 170 guests in attendance, which included South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, First Lady Kim Keon Hee, and Prince William and Kate Middleton. The King took the opportunity to acknowledge the band's efforts in environmental causes. He praised Blackpink for their role as Ambassadors for the U.K.'s Presidency of COP 26 and their advocacy for the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, applauding their ability to prioritize these vital issues alongside their success as global superstars.
The following day, Blackpink received a special honor at Buckingham Palace. They were made Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBEs) in recognition of their role as COP26 Advocates for the upcoming COP26 Summit in Glasgow in 2021. For the investiture ceremony, each member of the group wore skirt or pantsuits in shades of gray, white, and black. King Charles once again spoke to the band, jokingly remarking on their longevity and expressing his hope to see them perform live.
Notably, Blackpink made history in July 2023 when they became the first South Korean band to headline a major festival in the U.K., performing at the BST Hyde Park Festival.
