The second half of Virgin River season five on Netflix left fans eagerly waiting for more, as it concluded with a cliffhanger. Fortunately, fans can rejoice as the show has been renewed for a sixth season. Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, who took over for the fifth season, will continue to lead the series. The new season will consist of 10 episodes, returning to the show's original format after seasons four and five had 12 episodes each, including holiday specials set in the small California town.
In an interview with Deadline coinciding with the latest release, Smith revealed that there will be a time jump in season six. This jump will pick up from the end of the holiday special in the second part of season five, titled "Father Christmas." The episode introduces Mel's biological father, Everett Reid, who initially rejects the news. The time jump will allow for new plotlines, including Lizzie's impending arrival of her baby and positive developments in Doc's health.
Smith expressed excitement about exploring the dynamics between Doc and Hope in season six, as they will be in a healthier place than before. While Doc will receive a favorable prognosis, new challenges will arise. Additionally, the focus will be on Mel's relationship with her newfound parent, Everett, providing a fresh perspective.
The main cast members, including Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel and Martin Henderson as Jack, are expected to return for the sixth season. Joining them will be Tim Matheson as Dr. Vernon "Doc" Mullins, Annette O'Toole as Hope McCrea, Colin Lawrence as John "Preacher" Middleton, Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan Brady, Sarah Dugdale as Lizzie, Jenny Cooper as Joey Barnes, Zibby Allen as Brie Sheridan, Marco Grazzini as Mike Valenzuela, Lauren Hammersley as Charmaine Roberts, Mark Ghanimé as Dr. Cameron Hayek, Kai Bradbury as Denny Cutler, and Kandyse McClure as Kaia Bryant.
The production for Virgin River season six has not yet begun. The script is still in progress, and filming is expected to commence in the first half of 2024. However, there were some delays due to the Writers' Guild Strike of 2023. As of now, there is no trailer or production stills available, but updates will be provided once they become available.
